Community Lounge – Poppelbo

Developed for Poppelbo in Solrød, this project transformed an existing municipal space into a flexible environment shared by multiple user groups throughout the day.

The room needed to accommodate children during daytime hours while also functioning as a welcoming environment for study, reading groups, community activities, and local gatherings outside kindergarten hours. The challenge was to create a space that felt equally relevant to very different users while addressing practical requirements for storage, acoustics, and flexibility.

The design centred around a custom multifunctional storage wall combining integrated seating, concealed storage, and a small kitchenette. A colour palette of soft greens, warm red accents, and deep violet elements established a calm yet playful atmosphere, while curtains, acoustic surfaces, and display boards improved comfort and adaptability.

The project demonstrates how relatively simple interventions can transform an underutilised public space into a flexible and inviting environment that supports both everyday routines and community life.
